East–West University (EWUNI) is a bold new chapter in Georgian higher education, born from a regional vision and driven by modern ambition. Officially established in 2019, EWUNI emerged from a collaborative educational initiative between institutions across the South Caucasus and Turkey. The founders—Professor Hamlet Isakhanli of Khazar University and Professor Teimuraz Khurodze of Tbilisi State University, supported by entrepreneur Zaza Nishnianidze—envisioned a university that blends regional collaboration with top-tier medical training.
From the start, EWUNI focused on one mission: delivering a cutting-edge medical education that’s accessible to both local and international students. Today, its English-language Medical Doctor (MD) program follows European standards and integrates theory and hands-on learning from the very beginning. Students benefit from access to modern laboratories, simulation centers, and affiliated clinics—like Alexander Aladashvili Clinic, Tbilisi Balneological Resort, and Geo Hospital—that bring real clinical exposure to daily academic life.
A key element of EWUNI’s philosophy is a strong commitment to student-centered education. The university’s infrastructure reflects that: classrooms, integrated teaching spaces, a library, computer labs, and even dormitories within the main university building—including cafeterias, study areas, and laundry services—are designed to support a full-life experience on campus.
EWUNI isn’t just about learning medicine—it’s also about global relevance. The school is recognized by internationally respected bodies like WHO, ECFMG, and NMC, and is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools, which gives graduates a pathway to practice or continue studies in countries such as the US, UK, Canada, and India.
Beyond infrastructure and accreditation, EWUNI also offers a vibrant international community. Several student testimonials highlight how early clinical rotations, OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examinations), workshops, and PBL (Problem-Based Learning) sessions offer demanding yet enriching educational experiences. One student notes, “Most interesting aspect of studying medicine is the clinical aspects and [EWUNI] has a lot of clinical rotations, workshops, OSCE, PBL sessions to face the medical world. Whole curriculum is designed by renowned doctors of Georgia.” Another says, “University hospitals give us opportunities to use practical skills and knowledge… I recommend EWUNI because it gives great opportunity to become a great doctor”.
EWUNI stands in Tbilisi’s heart, blending modern medical education with a student-friendly and interconnected campus. For aspiring medical professionals seeking a globally minded university that is modern, accredited, and intentionally student-focused, East–West University offers a compelling, human-centered path to international careers.
